Boxy Dude Hat Pattern

Boxy Dude Hat Pattern

This was a hat I made using mosaic or slip stitch knitting. That means the color design is acheived using only one color at a time. I wanted to post a new free pattern to say thanks for 500,000 visits!!! I like the mod squares look of the hat. In girly colors it could be gorgeous. And in these colors it's perfect for a guy!

Materials:

  • 2 colors worsted weight yarn (Uses less than half of a Peaches N Creme Skein for each)

  • Size 8 Circulars and/or dpns

  • Stitch marker (to mark beginning and end of row)

  • Tapestry Needle

Cast on 80 sts with Color A. Join.

3 rows (K1 through back loop, P1) ribbing

With B Rows 1&2: *K3, Slip 1, K3, Slip 1, K2* repeat from * to * around.

With A Rows 3&4: *K2, Slip 1, K5, Slip 1, K1* repeat from * to * around.

With B Rows 5&6: *Slip 2, K7, Slip 1* repeat from * to * around.

With A Rows 7&8: *K2, Slip 1, K5, Slip 1, K1* repeat from * to * around.

With B Rows 9&10: *K3, Slip 1, K3, Slip 1, K2* repeat from * to * around.

With A Rows 11&12: *K4, Slip 3, K3* repeat from * to * around.

Repeat these rows to desired length. Begin decrease rows. (I did 2 rows black, 2 rows yellow, etc. for the decrease rows)

Dec Row 1: *K8, K2tog* repeat from * to * around.

Dec Row 2: *K7, K2tog* repeat from * to * around.

Dec Row 3: *K6, K2tog* repeat from * to * around.

Dec Row 4: *K5, K2tog* repeat from * to * around.

Dec Row 5: *K4, K2tog* repeat from * to * around.

Dec Row 6: *K3, K2tog* repeat from * to * around.

Dec Row 7: *K2, K2tog* repeat from * to * around.

Dec Row 8: *K1, K2tog* repeat from * to * around.

Dec Row 9: *K2tog* repeat from * to * around.

Cut yarn leaving a long enough tail to thread through remaining stitches and pull up tight. Weave in all ends and enjoy!
