Amanda and Melinda's Hats Patterns

Amanda and Melinda's Hats Patterns
I designed these hats for my 9 and 12 year old niece in laws. These hats are so stretchy though they even fit my fiancee's head. I designed them in a baby cable ribbing which is very stretchy. For Melinda's (left) I started out right in pattern. For Amanda's (right) I started with a couple of rows of knit one purl one ribbing to make it hug her head more. To make an adult version I would say simply make it longer! You don't even need to cast on more stitches due to it being soooooooooo stretchy!
Materials:
  • Worsted Weight Yarn (less than one skein no matter what kind you use
  • Size 8 knitting needles
  • Darning needle

Pattern:

Cast on 76 stitches

For the Amanda version do 1 inch of K1, P1 ribbing before beginning pattern rows

For the Melinda version skip right to the pattern rows

P(attern) Row 1: *P2, K2* repeat from * to * across row (Wrong side)

PRow2: *(Knit 2 together leaving stitches on left needle, insert right needle between 2 stitches just knitted together and knit the first stitch again, slip both stitches from the left needle), P2* repeat from * to * across row.

Repeat these two rows until your hat is the desired length, ending on a right side row, then begin decrease rows on a wrong side row.

D(ecrease) Row 1: *P2, K2tog, P2, K2* rep from * to * across ending P2, K2tog.

DRow2: * P1, (Knit 2 together leaving stitches on left needle, insert right needle between 2 stitches just knitted together and knit the first stitch again, slip both stitches from the left needle), P2, (Knit 2 together leaving stitches on left needle, insert right needle between 2 stitches just knitted together and knit the first stitch again, slip both stitches from the left needle)* Repeat from * to * ending P1, (Knit 2 together leaving stitches on left needle, insert right needle between 2 stitches just knitted together and knit the first stitch again, slip both stitches from the left needle)

DRow3: *P2, K1, P2, K2tog* repeat from * to * ending P2, K1

DRow4: *P1, (Knit 2 together leaving stitches on left needle, insert right needle between 2 stitches just knitted together and knit the first stitch again, slip both stitches from the left needle)* repeat from * to * across row.

DRow5: P2tog, P8, P2tog *P9, P2tog* repeat from * to * across row ending P1

DRow6: K2tog, K7, K2tog *K8, K2tog* repeat from * to * across row.

DRow 7: *P7, P2tog* repeat from * to * across row.

DRow8: *K6, K2tog* repeat from * to * across row.

DRow9: *P5, P2tog* repeat from * to * across row.

DRow10: *K4, K2tog* repeat from * to * across row.

DRow11: *P3, P2tog* repeat from * to * across row.

DRow12: *K2, K2tog* repeat from * to * across row.

DRow 13: *P2, P2tog* repeat from * to * across row.

DRow14: K2 tog across row.

Slip all stitches to opposite needle and cut thread leaving a long tail for sewing up the seam. Thread yarn onto darning needle and slip stitches of the needle onto the darning needle and pull tight. Secure and sew the side seam weaving in your ends when you are done.

As always you can make it for yourself or for a gift. You may not make them to sell. If you want to share the pattern share the link and not the pattern itself. Happy Knitting! And send in photos!

Lol Thanks. I would like to take credit for those sheets but my Randy picked those out as a gift when we moved in together. He got the whole pink sheet comforter set with matching throw pillows and a new fan and headboard. He basically suprised me with a whole new room that was perfect!

gvreat patterns! thanks for posting.

Would love to make the beanies, I have a small head for a mature woman, 22" circumference and would love to know how to adjust them, please.

After I make a couple, I want to make about 10 for my charity.

Much thanks and God Bless :):)

Wow! Great hat! Can't wait to get my needles out!

A couple of questions please Kody:

1. The No.8 needles - are they UK size?

2. Can you give a knitting gauge for this hat?

With thanks for a fabulous site.
