Single Rose Hat Pattern
Single Rose Hat Pattern
You can do this hat in any number of color. The ones shown here have a very elegant look to them. Use your imaginiation. You could also fill in the background inside the rose with a complimentary color, or embroider detail into the leaves of the rose. This hat is knit flat and uses the fairisle technique. The rose can be made with scraps from your stash!
Materials:
3 colors worsted weight yarn (Background, Rose and Stem)
Size 8 Knitting Needle
Tapestry needle
2 Stitch markers
With background color cast on 80 (88) stitches. Work in K1, P1 ribbing for desired length.
Work in stockinette stitch 4 rows, on row 4 add stitch markers as follows:
P28 pm, P24 pm, P28 (P32 pm, P24 pm, P32)
B is for Background color, S is for stem, R is for Rose
Row 1: Knit to marker, Slip marker, With B K7, With S K5, With B K9, With S K3, Slip marker, Knit to end of row.
Row2: Purl to marker, Slip marker, With S P4, With B P6, With S P6, With B P8, Slip marker, Purl to end of row.
Row3: Knit to marker, Slip marker, With B K8, With S K7, With B K3, With S K3, With B K3, Slip marker, Knit to the end of row.
Row4: Purl to marker, Slip marker, With B P5, With S P3, With B P1, With S P6, With B P9, Slip marker, Purl to the end of row.
Row5: Knit to marker, Slip marker, With B K9, With S K8, With B K7, Slip marker, Knit to the end of row.

Continue in Stockinette stitch until hat is desired length ending after a purl row, then begin decrease rows

DR4: Purl
DR5: *K6, K2tog* (*K7, K2tog*) repeat from * to * across row.
DR6: Purl
DR7: *K5, K2tog* (*K6, K2tog*) repeat from * to * across row.
DR8: Purl
DR9:*K4, K2tog* (*K5, K2tog*) repeat from * to * across row.
DR10: Purl
DR11: *K3, K2tog* (*K4, K2tog*) repeat from * to * across row.
DR12: Purl
DR13: *K2, K2tog* (*K3, K2tog*) repeat from * to * across row.
DR14: Purl
DR15: *K1, K2tog* (*K2, K2tog*) repeat from * to * across row.
DR16: Purl
DR17: *K2tog* (*K1, K2tog*) repeat from * to * across row.
For larger hat only DR18: Purl DR 19 :(K2tog) across row
Cut yarn leaving long enough tail to sew up side seam. Thread through remaining stitches and pull up tight. Sew side seam, weave in all ends and enjoy.

You always come up with such awesome patterns! I don't think I could do something like this and have it turn out looking like what it's actually intended to, lol. How do you initially sketch them out?
