Soaring Eagles Hat Pattern (Stockinette Stitch Version)

Soaring Eagles Hat Pattern (Stockinette Stitch Version)
My fiance loves eagles for some reason. So I wanted to make him a nice hat with an eagle on it since I forbid him from getting anymore tattoos for the time being. The hat looks much more complicated to make than it really is. It is done using slip stitches so you only have to worry about using one color per row. The end result is rather neat if you ask me! So go ahead and make one for yourself, for a friend, or for charity. You cannot sell these and if you must share the pattern share the link and not the pattern itself. I did create two different version of this hat. One is a Garter Stitch design the other is stockinette stitch! Enjoy! Happy Knitting!
Supplies:
  • Worsted Weight Yarn in 2 different colors (I used Red Heart in a solid red and a varigated blue). The Color of the Eagle will be color A, The background color will be color B.
  • Size 8 Straight knitting needles (you can do it on circs back and forth if you wish)
  • Stitch Markers
  • Tapestry Needle

IMPORTANT NOTE: ON ALL ODD NUMBERED ROWS SLIP WITH YARN IN BACK. ON ALL EVEN NUMBERED ROWS SLIP WITH YARN IN FRONT!

To Make This Hat:

With Color B, Cast on 88 stitches and do an inch or so in K2, P2 ribbing. On last row work 22 sts, place a marker, work 22 stitches, place a marker, work 22 stitches, place a marker, work 22 stitches. This will make it easier if you lose your place in the repeats.

Slip all stitches to opposite needle. Cut yarn leaving a long enough tail to sew up the seam. Thread through tapesty needle. One at a time thread stitches onto the tapestry needle and off of the knitting needle. When all stitches have been transferred pull up tight. Secure then sew up side seam. Weave in ends and enjoy.

I've just finished knitting this hat. I had a problem with Row 31, but used Row 32 to fix it. Now all I have to do is seam it up.

Same as previous post - I also had a problem with row 31, since it lists 24 stitches for a stitch repeat of 22! I had to rip out that row & then attempt to find the error. BTW - this easily converts to a circular pattern, which I intend to do if I ever use this again, since I hate seams in hats.

I want to try this lovely pattern, but need to know if you edited the problem mentioned about Row 31 in the other comments.

I love this pattern. Thanks for posting. I have 2 questions. First, is the problem in 31 corrected? Second, when the stitches are slipped, are they slipped knit-wise or purl-wise? Thanks.

Hi Kodymay! I'd love to knit this hat but has Row 31 been fixed? Also, to convert to circular knitting, do you lose any stitches or anything ... or just knit it the same way but all knit stitches? I'm a newbie. lol. Love your patterns, they're so darned nice!! Thank you!!
