Yin Yang Hat Pattern

Yin Yang Hat

This is the last hat I made for Randy before leaving Guyana. It's a slip stitch mosaic pattern, so you get the look of a design but you are only working with one color at a time. It's super easy to do and if you can knit and slip stitch on circulars you can make this hat. It's super simple. Make it in an acrylic or wool for winter wear or in cotton for a nice warm weather beanie!
  • Worsted Weight Cotton (2 colors-A which was the Navy Blue Color and B which I used White For)
  • Size 8 circulars and/or dpns
  • Tapestry Needle
  • A Stitch Marker to mark beginning and end of row

With A Cast on 80sts. Place Marker and join to work in the round.

With A do desired length of K1(through the back loop), P1 ribbing.

With B- Rows 1&2: *K2, Slip 2, K6, Slip 2, K8* repeat from * to * around.

With A- Rows 3&4: *K4, (Slip 2, K6)twice* repeat from * to * around.

With B- Rows 5&6: *Slip 2, K4, Slip 2, K2* repeat from * to * around.

With A- Rows 7&8: *K2, (Slip 2, K4)3times* repeat from * to * around.

With B- Rows 9&10: *K4, Slip 2, K6, Slip 2, K4, Slip 2* repeat from * to * around.

With A- Rows 11&12: *Slip 2, K4, Slip 2, K2* repeat from * to * around.

With B- Rows 13&14: *K2, Slip 2, K10, Slip 2, K4* repeat from * to * around.

With A- Rows 15&16: *Slip 2, K10, Slip 2, K6* repeat from * to * around.

With B- Rows 17&18: *K4, Slip 2, K2, Slip 2* repeat from * to * around.

With A- Rows 19&20: *K2, Slip 2. K6, Slip 2, K4, Slip 2, K2* repeat from * to * around.

With B- Rows 21&22: *(Slip 2, K4)twice, Slip 2, K6* repeat from * to * around.

With A- Rows 23&24: *K4, Slip 2, K2, Slip 2* repeat from * to * around.

Repeat these 24 rows to desired length. Then tie off white (B) and begin decrease rows.

DRow1: *K8, K2tog* repeat from * to * around.

DRow2: *K7, K2tog* repeat from * to * around.

DRow3: *K6, K2tog* repeat from * to * around.

DRow4: *K5, K2tog* repeat from * to * around.

DRow5: *K4, K2tog* repeat from * to * around.

DRow6: *K3, K2tog* repeat from * to * around.

DRow7: *K2, K2tog* repeat from * to * around.

DRow8: *K1, K2tog* repeat from * to * around.

Amazing works from knitting. I am hoping to practice with knitting pattern, I am still learning as I am reading more about knitting. Would you recommend this to a beginner like me? Thanks!

Hi Kady, I am curious - what were you doing in Guyana? Are you a Guyanese? I am originally from Guyana and I knit a lot. I was looking for a Guyana knit flag and stumbled on your patterns. They are gorgeous, and I will be happy to share photos of my knitted items when I am finished. Thank you so very much.
