Japanese Kanji "Father" Hat Pattern:
My Dad wanted a yellow and black beanie (Skidoo Colors) for under his snowmobile helmet this winter. I wanted to make him something special so I charted out the Japanese Kanji symbol for father. He works for Mitsubishi and works with a lot of people who only speak japanese and I just thought it would be neat. Plus I really thought the symbol had a neat look to it. So make one for yourself or a friend but do not sell them and if you share the pattern share the link and not the pattern itself.
Supplies:
- Yellow Worsted Weight Yarn (Y)
- Black Worsted Weight Yarn (B)
- Size 8 Circulars and/or dpns
- Tapestry Needle
- Stitch Marker to mark beginning of row
To Begin:
With B Cast on 84 stitches and do K1, P1 ribbing

Kody, hi again! This is your fan from Guatemala City and I'd like to ask you something. Told you not long ago that I cannot use circulars yet, therefore my hats are all knitted flat. How can you adapt a pattern that calls for circulars to straight needles? And also, I read somewhere that to make the seaming of a hat knitted w/straights easier, all you have to do is add 2 st to the original CO number and these 2 st are going to be your seam. What do you think?
I've also heard that 2 sts thing. It usually applies to hats that are patterned with k and p variations right up to the very edge. To make a hat flat that calls for in the round you usually have to reverse every other row changing k to p and vice versa. One tip I have found is if you use two sets of circulars it is often less akward. Hope it helps!

I'm a new fan of your work. but I have a ?...(so new at this) When you knit in the round to add the color for the letter..do you carry the color around with the main color or leave it hanging..or keep cutting and reattching the color as the pattern come up?
Do you not have a chart for this? I'm about halfway through, and I think I made a mistake somewhere!
